DEAR BROOKLYN,

I WAS BORN AND RAISED IN YOUR LOVING ARMS AND HAVE BECOME THE MAN I AM TODAY BECAUSE OF YOU. I MAY HAVE MOVED OUT FROM YOUR EMBRACE EARLY ON IN MY LIFE, BUT YOUR CORE VALUES STILL RESONATE WITH ME AND PLAY A ROLL IN EVERYTHING I DO.  I GREW UP WITH YOUR STREETS AS MY PLAYGROUND, EXPLORING THE VAST NEIGHBORHOODS AND CULTURES YOU HAD TO OFFER... THE AROMAS OF FOOD FROM AROUND THE WORLD, THE DIVERSITY OF YOUR PEOPLES AND THE PURE ENERGY COURSING THROUGH YOUR VEINS.  THERE IS NO OTHER PLACE LIKE YOU AND I AM FOREVER GRATEFUL FOR THE TWENTY YEARS I WAS ABLE TO SPEND WITH YOU.

Growing up in Brooklyn is something you can’t really explain, it’s a badge of honor you wear proudly every day.  My father came here from a small fishing village in Greece.  He wanted a new life, a better life, an opportunity to make something of himself and support his family back in Greece.  He landed in Brooklyn not speaking a word of English and not a nickel to his name but was determined to change his life.  And he did just that.  He eventually owned two diners, one in the heart of Greenwich Village in Manhattan and one in Brooklyn.

It was from him where I learned the value of hard work and my love of food.  From flipping burgers when I was eyelevel to the grill to serving thousands of customers walking through the doors of the Cube Steak diner in the city and later the Floridian diner in Brooklyn, I knew deep down that entertaining and feeding people would be a part of my life forever.

I wish Charlie was here today to see what we’ve built with Brooklyn City.  I think he’d be proud of our small pizzeria that’s become a pillar of our community.  He would be beside himself seeing his grandson making pizzas and talking to all our regulars and his granddaughter working the front so effortlessly.  He would be amazed at his daughter-in-law’s welcoming, inviting nature and how she makes every one of our customers feel like family.

Ever since moving to south orange county in 2014 we knew right away the food scene would never be the same.  The aroma of freshly baked bagels, that burn on the roof of your mouth from the piping hot slice of pizza from the neighborhood pizza joint, the one-of-a-kind desserts you just couldn’t find out here.  It triggered a memory deep in my subconscious, a memory of flipping burgers and serving customers at the Cube Steak…and Brooklyn City was born.

We were determined to bring a taste of Brooklyn to South Orange County and what better food to bring than authentic NY Pizza.  We have a passion for pizza. We’ve been making pizzas for a long time, striving to replicate the pies from our old stomping grounds in Brooklyn. Ever since moving here, we’ve been on a mission to replicate the tastes from back east. After years of perfecting the cheese pizza we felt the time was right to share our love of pizza making and open Brooklyn City Pizzeria. All our pizzas are made fresh to order using the finest ingredients sourced both locally and from Italy. Our dough is made from high-protein flour and is cold rested for up to three days, giving it that signature New York crust and flavor.

So whether you’re an East Coast transplant, a Cali local or just love great pizza and food, we invite you to our little shop to experience Brooklyn, our way.  We look forward to serving you soon.
